Sugar Mountain is the first exhibition at The Arts Company by Augusta, Georgia artist Chadwick Tolley. Tolley begins each piece as an idea or a desire to explore one of the many technical aspects of printmaking. He starts by collecting images, sketches and textures and uses these to begin creating the screen prints and etchings featured in this exhibition. As Tolley develops his images, he deliberately leaves evidence of deletions, corrections or accumulation of marks as a form of documentation and evidence of the process. The title of the exhibition is in reference to a specific work from the show, although Sugar Mountain certainly personifies the colorful, vivid world of characters, images and scenarios prevalent in Tolley’s work.
