Jonathon Kimbrell was born in Houston, Texas in 1981, but spent most of later childhood and early adult life growing up in the West Texas town of Abilene. At a young age, he had taken a great deal of interest in modern art and music, allowing both aspects to greatly influence his own art. While developing his style in college, Kimbrell had taken a nod from 1960s Pop Art. He preferred the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Eduard Ruscha. Kimbrell graduated in 2004 from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting and graphic design.
Aside from working in paint, Kimbrell also works in stained glass and photography, which has won him numerous awards, like being chosen as a finalist for the 24th Annual Photographers Forum & Nikon “Best of College Photography 2004.”
After graduating from college, Kimbrell has since relocated to Dallas, Texas in hopes of furthering his career as a gallery artist. His first major gallery debut in Dallas is set for September 2006, and hopes to add to that list, either locally or nationally. Kimbrell has started gathering attention for his portraits of musicians, film stars and personal friends and family. He is owner of Napkin Art Studios, a company that produces graphic design, photography, paintings and stained glass windows. Their motto is: “Swell art for a swell price!”

As I deal with the recent departure of a great romance, I've turned to the ones that have always been there no matter what: artists, musicians, writers, and muses. I'll admit, though...the creative muses haven't been around as much as I like, but I suppose that's how the struggle goes with being single again. This new batch of work will feature rock stars, blues gods, corporate identities, ghosts of my past, blood, sweat, tears and pain. Perhaps these new paintings will be more personal in nature, rather than just simple images of familiar faces.
