Artist Statement:  The Monarch butterfly undergoes a complete metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly capable of flying, with no training, within minutes of emerging from its chrysalis.  Monarchs have lift, but no force, and must generate force for forward motion from several aerodynamic mechanisms including wake capture and vortices generated at the wing edge.  This improbable arrangement of unstable fluttering flight is nevertheless sufficient to fly each some 3000 miles to Mexico every year - another miracle.  This series celebrates the Monarchs fluttering through spacetime on a wing and a prayer - a miracle - definitely a miracle.
