Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, John McLeod graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi in 2001, with a principal focus in sculpture. At a young age, John was fascinated by Mesoamerican and Egyptian art, which informs and influences his work today. He creates forms with different shape relations, textures and materials that can access the universally understood elements of mythology—our shared set of needs, questions and hopes—our desires for love, community and some form of spiritual connection and growth. The recipient of multiple awards and grants, his works has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries, including The Wiregrass and The Booth Museum of Western Art. John has also been commissioned by several corporations for large public installations.
