About Charles Keiger

Charles Keiger holds a BFA from the University of South Carolina, and an MFA from the University of Georgia. He uses oil and mixed media on wood and canvas to present a fresh take on how precision in gesture, design, color, and sparse details can reveal the tremendous depth of anxiety and emotion. His paintings symbolize universal feelings of experience and understanding that connect with the viewer.

Keiger is an Atlanta-based artist known for his work representing southern gothic and magical realism. Featured in Art & Antiques magazine as an artist emerging on the national scene, Keiger has shown his work in a series of one-man and group shows presented throughout the southeast and New York City. His work has been collected in 200 private and corporated collections, including the MGM Grand Las Vegas, Joel Katz, and Halle Berry.

Artist Statement
close Artist Statement
"What I enjoy about painting pictures, is the ability to create a world never before seen, a place with its own rules, values and characters. The elements in my paintings are based on real world objects; trees, flowers, buildings, people. In creating a composition, what excites me is combining these elements and presenting them to the viewer in a way that makes them stop and wonder, what is going on here? There is an implied narrative in my paintings and the viewer is free to interpret the story as they choose. I have always felt the artist’s job was to depict an alternative way of looking at the world, to offer a window into possible realities. As a person I am attracted to those absurd moments in life that offer a sense of clarity. Those brief occasions that occur where you say to yourself ,"I am overjoyed to be a part of this thing called life". When I paint I attempt to convey that emotional state to the viewer."
