First Saturday Gallery Crawl
Sat, Jun 7. Various locations. 6 - 9 pm. Free. Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings on the first Saturday of every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Two free shuttles provide transportation among the galleries from 6 pm to 10 pm. See the shuttle map and gallery listing here. Listings below include additional information about some of the openings. Please NOTE that 14 galleries are officially on this month's tour. The Arts Company
Sat, Jul 5. 215 5th Avenue North. 254-2040. 6 - 9 pm. Free. "Brother Mel: 50 Years of Fresh Art" continues. This exhibit celebrates 50 years of Marianist monk Brother Mel making art, his 80th birthday and the 10th annual exhibition of Brother Mel's artwork at The Arts Company. On display through August 15. Debuting is "Fresh Picks" an exhibit that will preview new artwork and artists every week through August 15.

The Rymer Gallery
Sat, Jul 5. 233 5th Avenue North. 752-6030. 6 - 9 pm. Free. Featuring a solo show by Buddhist monk Phurba Namgay exhibiting his Bhutanese thankas and mandelas. Namgay uses the traditional methods of thanka painting including making his own canvas, paints and brushes. On display through July 26.

TAG art gallery
Sat, Jul 5. 83 Arcade. 429-7708. 6 - 9 pm. Free. TAG's final show in the Arcade. This exhibit features new works by Rik Catlow, Julianna Bright, Matthew Feyld, Jason Dunda, Kelly Williams, and Mr. Hooper. On display through July 26
Tennessee Art League
Sat, Jul 5. 808 Broadway. 6 - 10 pm. Free. Four new exhibits on display. A member's exhibition in the Members' Gallery, a show by Jean Gauld-Jaeger in the Ethel Smith Gallery, a show by Denton Ridge in the Premiere Gallery, and "Lasting Impressions" in the Poston 3 Gallery. Exhibits on display through July 30, except the Denton Ridge exhibition which closes on August 29.

This exhibit features works by a cross section of homeless, formerly homeless and non-homeless artists.
